Superintendent Waverly B. Bumbrey Sr.

Dr. Waverly B. Bumbrey Sr. was born and raised in Washington, DC. He was a member at St. James Baptist Church, where he served as the Minister of Music for seven years. Recognizing there was a call on his life, Superintendent Bumbrey began preaching in his early 20s. In 1990, he became the Associate Pastor at Restoration Family Worship Center in Greensboro NC; there he served for 5 years until he assumed his first pastorate shortly there after. 

Today, Superintendent Bumbrey is the proud Pastor and Founder of Refuge Temple Cathedral of His Glory Church of God in Christ in Detroit, MI, a growing congregation of diverse people. Refuge Temple is strategically located in the inner city of Detroit as a church with a burden to restore the family unit through proclaiming the Word of God.

Superintendent Bumbrey serves as the Superintendent of the J. S. Bailey District, Jurisdictional Youth Department Executive Board member, President of the Jurisdictional Department of Evangelism, S.E.M. (Sunday School, Evangelism and Missions) Convention Chairman, a member of the Ordination Board, and a member of the Executive Board of the Southwest Michigan First Jurisdiction of the Church Of God In Christ under the leadership of Bishop Marcus R. Ways, Sr.. He is also the President of Region 11: (Canada, Michigan, and Indiana), Executive Board member, Liaison to the Board of Bishops, Holy Convocation Point Person and Regional AIM Chairman for International Department of Evangelism for COGIC under the leadership of International President Elder Gary Sprewell.
